Fiber Optic Monitoring Technology
The resident’s in-bed activity is measured using fiber-optic technology. A small fiber-optic coil is placed in the resident’s bed. The fiber-optic coil is completely passive and involves no electrical connection. Resident activity is continuously monitored and reported to the Resident Status Monitor.

Typical activity data for a resident is shown in the figure below. Low resident activity (or no activity) indicates that the resident is not in bed or that the resident is showing lower than normal life signs. High resident activity may indicate that the resident is having a seizure or experiencing some other abnormal condition.
